On behalf of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), its divisions, the Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM), and host societies the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists (RMAG) and the Denver Geophysical Society (DGS), it is our pleasure to invite you to join us in person or virtually 26 September–1 October in Denver, Colorado, for the SEG/AAPG 2021 International Meeting for Applied Geoscience & Energy (IMAGE ‘21).

The Covid-19 global pandemic, the new energy road map, new technologies, new discoveries, and world events are making for a different energy future for geoscientists. The way conventions are delivered is also changing. SEG and ACE Annual Meetings in 2020 were completely online or virtual conventions. We are thrilled to introduce an entirely new geoscience meeting — IMAGE ’21 — where these premier geoscience societies join together for one incredible week of geoscience. IMAGE ’21 will be a hybrid meeting with both online and in-person content. You can’t miss a thing as every technical presentation will be recorded, enabling registrants to view the entire technical program.

This year SEG and AAPG had more than 1900 combined abstracts submitted, and the technical program will have approximately 1200 presentations. The technical program is diverse and will highlight geology including siliciclastic and carbonate sedimentary systems, petroleum systems and geochemistry, structure and tectonics, innovative multi-disciplinary workflows, machine learning and coding, data management, unconventional resources, sustainable energy development (including carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration), new energy frontiers, commercial skills and regulatory framework, history of petroleum geology, student research, SEPM Research Symposium, and a Discovery Thinking Forum. There will be special sessions honoring the late Roger Slatt, John Haun, and Vladimir Grechka. In addition, we are planning a plenary session on the topic of The Future of Oil and Gas. Plenary speakers will include participation from IOCs, NOCs, independents, and AAPG. Geophysically, IMAGE ‘21 will include exciting new developments in seismic acquisition, processing, and interpretation with a breathtaking array of cutting-edge technical developments, as well as a full range of virtual postconvention workshops, enabling attendance for all. Technical and special sessions will highlight fiber optic technology, including a special DAS tutorial session on Monday. Other presentations not to miss include highlights from the URTEC’20 meeting, as well as geoscience opportunities beyond oil and gas. Interested in being an entrepreneur? We have sessions devoted to fearless geoscientists looking to the future.

IMAGE ’21 will offer a variety of short courses, special panels, luncheons, and field trips allowing attendees to increase the scope of their knowledge while interacting and networking with like-minded professionals. Find out more about these educational offerings and featured events on the following pages.

Love to golf? Sign up for Sunday’s IMAGE ‘21 Golf Tournament located at the stunningly beautiful Arrowhead Golf Course, located just south of Denver in Littleton. This golf event is very likely to sell out, so don’t delay in signing up.

September is a fabulous time of year to be in Denver. The early fall weather features warm days and cool, crisp nights, and the mountains are just starting to turn fall colors. Tremendous adventures await, perfect for family outings and vacations. Come join us in Denver — we can’t wait to see you in person or Virtually at IMAGE ’21!
